The violent fugitive who removed his electronic monitoring bracelet may well be in or on his way to Nelson.

20-year-old Jade Harris continues to evade police after removing his bracelet on February 29 following his appearance in Masterton District Court on a breach of his home detention.

Harris has family in Nelson and Police say he could be on his way here.

Although Interisland ferries have been notified, police say it is still possible Harris has already crossed.

The second appeal for sightings of Harris was issued on Wednesday, after a first appeal, issued last week failed to locate him.

Masterton Senior Sergeant Gordon Crawley says Harris has been known to carry weapons and should not be approached.

Harris is serving a sentence of home detention on a range of dishonesty and driving offences.

He is European, 180cm tall and of medium build. Harris has a distinctive tattoo on the left-hand side of his neck and Roman numerals tattooed below his left eye.

Anyone with information should contact Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
