Fire in Richmond was controlled

A fire seen in Richmond early this morning was a controlled and permitted burn, says the Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade.

A fire captured by a Richmond resident early Wednesday morning.

A photo of the fire was taken by a Richmond resident and sent to this morning. Richmond fire chief Craig Piner says the fire was under control and those running it had a permit for the fire.

“Smoke seen rising from Lower Queen St was a controlled burn of debris from a demolished house,” he says.

The Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade did get a call out to the fire around 7am this morning, but no action was taken.
