End of summer not all bad news

The bad news is that it’s the end of summer. The good news is that means it’s time for the Sprig & Fern Harvest Fare to be held in Sundial Square in Richmond this Friday.

The annual fare celebrates the autumn harvest and features some of the Sprig & Fern’s finest beers and some of the region’s top wines, all made from hops and grapes harvested in Tasman. Add some excellent music from the Dixie Prix and a feast of food stalls, and you have the recipe for a great night out.

“It’s always the last hurrah for summer and an opportunity to get out with friends and family and enjoy the evening,” one of the organisers, Kim Quint of Richmond Unlimited, says.

“There’s always a really nice, relaxed atmosphere and I think that’s why people keep coming back.”

Friday night is the start of a big weekend for sponsors Sprig & Fern, which will have to back up for Marchfest at Founders on Saturday.

Head brewer Tracy Banner says they have also been busy brewing the latest batch of their award-winning Harvest Pilsner made from fresh green hops harvested from the Moutere Valley last week. Tracy says they are brewing a White IPA in collaboration with Auckland brewery Hallertau for Marchfest.

All the beer sold at Marchfest is brewed specifically for the event and has not previously been released.

The Sprig & Fern Harvest Fare is free and will be held in Sundial Square this Friday from 5.30pm to 10pm.
