Traffic stopped at the top of Trafalgar St which was instead full of international rhythms, dancing and spectators during Saturday’s Big Bang.

The drumming and fair trade awareness event spread the message, ‘beat climate change, beat poverty, beat a drum’.

Groups like Samba del Sol, Konkoba and the InRhythm Nelson African Drummers entertained the thousands of people that flowed through and an African drumming workshop got everyone involved.

Organiser Rebecca Sheehy says everyone loved the drumming, international flavour and the message.

“We just want people to know that they can make a change and think of fair trade when they go to buy things and so far everyone has really gotten behind it.”
