Are the Tasman trails your favourite place to cycle?
Voting for New Zealand’s Favourite Place to Cycle kicks off today and Kaiteriteri’s Mountain Biking Park is in the running.
The park has made the competition’s short list for the Off-Road or Adventure Ride category and is up against Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington and Christchurch’s Port Hills.
There are four categories: NZ Cycle Trail, Off-Road and Adventure Rides, Urban Trails and Commutes, and On-Road Rides.
If you love hitting the Tasman trails, and want to show some support, voting is open until February 29, 2016 and the NZ Transport Agency, along with Bike Wise, will announce the winner of the competition on March 3, 2016.
Prizes for voting are also up for grabs and include vouchers from local cycle shops.
NZTA’s National Cycling Manager Dougal List says the Rotorua Redwoods have won for the last two years but he hopes some new routes will do well in this year’s competition.
“It’s great to see a spread of finalists from a variety of regions and provinces. We had nearly 2,000 nominations this year which is fantastic!”
The competition coincides with Bike Wise Month this February, which encourages Kiwis to enjoy fun and safe cycling this summer.
“Cycling is an activity you can do with family, friends or colleagues. It’s a fantastic way to bring people and communities together,” says Dougal.
