Flooding has eased across most of the region after heavy downpours overnight.
The banks of the Wairoa River at Brightwater burst, reaching a 25 year flood level. The Anatoki River reached a 10 year flood level, and the Maitai River its annual flood level.
The Civil Defence Emergency Operations Centre monitored the situation through the night, coordinating with emergency services and council staff.
They says there was extensive surface flooding across the region, however the most intensive rain has passed through, and all rivers are dropping back. The forecast for the next 48 hrs includes showers, but not intense rainfall.
Parts of Nelson Tasman were drenched by more than half a metre of rain over the past 48 hours. 528 mm was recorded at the Paradise raingauge in the hills behind Takaka.
“There were no evacuations across the region that we are aware of, but we expect there has been water on properties.”
