A tree has fallen across the Appleby Bridge this afternoon, blocking traffic to just one lane.
The tree fell around 4.30 this afternoon and narrowly missed passing traffic on the Motueka side of the Appleby Bridge.
Police and volunteer fire brigades were on the scene and directing traffic through one lane.
Richmond man Steve Page arrived at the scene shortly after the tree fell says traffic could only just squeeze past the tree. “It was a very large and bushy tree. There were extremely strong winds in the area at the time and there was debris all over the road.”
He says traffic was backed up 40-50 on either side of the bridge.
