Woman lost on Hackett Track

A summer walk took a sinister turn when a woman had to spend the night in the bush after getting lost.

Search and rescue teams spent the night in the Mt Richmond Forest Park looking for the 31-year-old woman.

It took teams four and a half hours to locate the woman, who is currently being walked out of the area.

At this stage, her condition is unknown but she is able to walk.

The woman went for a day walk yesterday on the Hackett Track. After four hours walking she became lost and used her cell phone to call friends.

The woman’s friends contacted Police and two Land Search and Rescue Teams were deployed into the area. The teams set off about 11 pm and finally located the woman on a ridge at 3.30am today. They are walking her out of the area this morning.

Police would like to acknowledge the work of search and rescue volunteers who give up their time to assist Police in rescuing members of the public who get into difficulty in the outdoors.
