The weekend will be jammed packed with carols, there will be carols everywhere, and I truly mean everywhere. So if you’re not such a huge fan of ‘Silent Night’ you might want to check out some of the other events like the Tapawera Country Christmas Twilight Fair or the region’s beautifully lit houses in the 10th annual Light up Nelson. Click here to download the map.

The weather is looking pretty good with Metservice predicting today will be fine with a spot of cloud in the morning and evening, some sea breezes and a high of 20. However, Sunday looks less predictable with morning cloud, chance drizzle and then fine with light winds and a magnificent high of 23 degrees.

Saturday

  • Head over to the Hidden Sculpture Garden from 3 pm – 8 pm tomorrow for the Tapawera Country Christmas Twilight Fair. Craft stalls, food carts and live music will fill the beautiful garden. It’s a gold coin entry with proceeds going to the St John’s Ambulance. For more information, check out the Tapawera Christmas Fair FaceBook page.
  • The Tahunanui Community Centre, Tahunanui Business Association and St Stephens Community Church have banded together to bring you Carols by the Beach. From 4 pm – 8 pm the Tahunanui Domain will be taken over by bands, games, inflatables, face painting, carol singing and more. It’s a free event, but bring some money for food and extra fun.
  • The Nelson City Brass Band will be entertaining Nelsonians with Carols on the Lawn at Melrose House Cafe & Gardens. Everyone is invited to bring a blanket and picnic and relax on the lawn whilst listening to the sounds of Christmas. The event will run from 3.30 pm – 5 pm and is completely free.

Sunday

  • Check out the Washbourn Gardens from 8 pm – 10 pm for some more carols at the annual Carols by Candlelight. This free event has been running for over 20 years and sees Nelsonians packing picnics and wrapping up warm for a night of Christmas tunes. Candles will be available to purchase for a gold coin but the event will be cancelled if wet.
  • Once again, the Nelson Brass Band will perform Christmas Carols but this time at Broadgreen House. It begins at 5.30 pm and will run for an hour with Santa making a cheeky appearance.
