Nelsonians are dreaming of new phones and the great outdoors this holiday season, according to Trade Me’s annual list of top ten Christmas searches for the Nelson Bays region.
The internet trading site has revealed that the most searched for item in November was the iPhone, followed by kayaks, trampolines, Converse shoes, barbeques, mountain bikes, outdoor furniture, lego, camping and jet boats.
“The list has a number of similarities to the nationwide list,” says Trade Me spokesman Logan Mudge. “But it looks like our Nelson Bays members are even keener on getting outside this summer with mountain bikes and camping coming into the list over Star Wars and PlayStation 4. Clearly, they want some nice kicks too, with Converse shoes making an appearance.”
Logan says it is the fifth year running that Apple has dominated Trade Me’s top searches, with iPhones generating hundreds of thousands of searches over the last month.
He also says that Lego sales have gone from strength to strength in the past few years.
“December Lego sales have increased 175 per cent from 2008 to 2014, and we expect to see another jump this year.”
Other popular searches include adult colouring-in books, drones and Fitbit activity trackers, and
Logan says he expects to see a big jump in sales for these in the next few weeks.
Gifts that have fallen off the radar from last Christmas include selfie sticks, dogs and puppies, go-carts, Frozen and Minecraft toys and clothing.
