Garin College junior students were flying high this week as part of the school’s Graduate Challenge.
As is tradition, Garin College juniors are finishing the year with a range of fun and educational activities. One of the 13 challenges was called Blast Off which included launching hot air balloons and flying model planes, helicopters and chemically-powered rockets.
Blast Off supervisor, teacher Tony Etchells, says the tissue paper hot air balloons were inflated over a gas burner and launched in the gym on Thursday.
Farai Mahwenyiyo, Aron Koch and Logan Van De Geest’s balloon the Flying Dutchman won the prize for the longest flight.
