Anna Marshall couldn’t find the right Nelson man to fall in love with, so she’s turning to a television show instead.

Anna is in competition with four other ladies for a spot as a contestant on the reality television show, The Bachelor NZ.

The competition is basically a popularity contest run by radio station More FM. Whichever of the five ladies gets the most votes will then get a spot on the show.

Anna says she decided to enter the show after a chance encounter in Australia. “I was visiting a friend in Brisbane and while on a train an elderly lady asked if she was “the girl on The Bachelor”.

“I said `no’, but then went home to see who she thought I looked like. Then I went onto the Bachelor NZ website and saw entries were open, so I thought I’d go for it.”

Anna says if she does make the show she will enter with a sense of adventure.

“I’m in it for the ride. I love trying new things. I’m looking to meet someone who can do those things, with a bit more romance.”

As for potentially having to kiss a near-stranger on television, Anna admits it will be weird. “That was the first thing mum said to me, are you prepared to pash on national television’. I said to her I’ll pretend the camera’s not there, but then I thought, no, I won’t do that. I’ll be on my best behaviour.”
