Appleby: third in sunshine hours

That’s right, Appleby is officially the third sunniest spot in New Zealand.

According to Niwa’s climate summary report, Appleby is currently ranked third in sunshine hours for the year, to the month ending on November 30.

Appleby has been showered in a total of 2456 hours of sunshine.

First place has been taken out by Blenheim with 2519 hours of sunshine, Whakatane comes in at second with 2476 and Lake Tekapo is ranked fourth with 2423 hours.

The report also showed that rainfall was well below normal in most parts of the country, with mainly dry weather this year and 110 to 125 per cent more sun than normal in the Far North, inland Bay of Plenty, southern Waikato, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

Hastings had the highest temperature this spring with 31.7C on November 26, while Naseby Forest had the lowest recorded temperature of -8.2C on October 31.
