This weekend includes the annual A&P Show, cricket, markets, and even Christmas is making an early appearance.

This afternoon, the New Zealand White Ferns will battle Sri Lanka in a fast-paced T20 cricket game at the Saxton Oval. The teams hit the pitch at 4 pm and entry is free. Head on down and watch White Fern’s stars Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine take on their Sri Lankan opponents.

Tonight from 5-8 pm is the Hampden Street School Twilight Gala. Held at Hampden Street School, families and young-at-heart locals can enjoy live music, rides, games, stalls and a spooky haunted house for the price of a gold coin donation.

Saturday will kick off the iconic two-day Nelson A&P Show at the Richmond Park Showgrounds.

The Strongman Competition, equestrian events, carnival, dog trials, terrier racing, shearing, wood chopping, laser tag, an animal barn and endless stalls are all featured, as well as photography, horticulture, food and drink exhibits. The event runs from 9.30am – 5.00pm on Saturday, and until 4:00 pm Sunday. Entry is $15 for adults, $5 for kids (5-16 years) and families are $25 (up to 2 adults and 3 kids). Metservice predicts fine spells with a chance shower for Saturday as well as westerly winds and a high of 19 degrees.

New, travelling show, the Gypsy Extravaganza will also be entertaining locals all weekend. The show runs from 9 am until 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, featuring live music, entertainment, readers, art, an open home as well as food, clothing, jewellery and herbal product stalls. Entry is free.

Sunday should be a good day weather-wise, with Metservice reporting a fine day with westerly winds and a high of 19 degrees.

The Great Christmas Market invites locals to Founders Heritage Park from 10 am – 4 pm for a day of enticing taste buds and browsing stalls from over 90 of the regions finest boutique makers. Pre-order picnics are on the cards and the Founders Cafe and Brewery will be operating on the day. There is also plenty on offer for non-shoppers including, the Organic Brewery, curated historic buildings and a fun playground for the kids. Entry is $2 with children under 12 free.

The New Zealand White Ferns clash a second time against Sri Lanka in a T20 cricket game on Sunday. This time the game begins at 2 pm on the Saxton Oval, so take the whole family along for a good afternoon of cricket. Once again, entry is free.
