Seven dead in Coast chopper crash

The wreck of a helicopter that crashed at around 11am on Saturday has been located in a crevasse on Fox Glacier although rescuers have been unable to reach the helicopter due to the difficult terrain.

It has been confirmed that a pilot and six passengers were on board the helicopter and police believe no one has survived the crash. Police have resumed as the lead agency and will coordinate the recovery and scene examination and this is likely to take some days.

Police are also working to locate the next of kin of those believed to have been on today’s helicopter flight.
