Nelsonians gathered at the Speights Ale House at 4 am this morning to watch our boys in black defend their title against the Wallabies.

The game sparked a lot of cheering and a fair bit of nail-biting but the All Blacks will once again bring home the Webb Ellis Cup.

The game saw numerous tries, penalty kicks and a magnificent drop kick by Dan Carter, the All Blacks left the field triumphant with a score of 34-17.

The game marks the end of an era as several of the All Blacks have confirmed their retirement from the squad.

The list includes Dan Carter, Kevin Mealamu, Ma’a Nonu and at the post-match conference, coach Steve Hanson suggested Richie McCaw was likely to join them.

Spectator, David Donaldson says, “It’s such a good way for Dan Carter and the other guys to finish.”
