The annual Wishing Tree Appeal was launched at Richmond’s KMart store on Wednesday and organisers hope it will be able to deliver 2000 Christmas presents to people around the Nelson-Tasman region.
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal supports families in need throughout New Zealand and Australia, last year collecting 42,273 gifts in New Zealand as well as cash donations. It is the third year the appeal has been held in the Nelson-Tasman region with the number of gifts increasing from 400 in 2013 to around 800 last year.
Ranzau School students performed a kapa haka at Wednesday’s launch while children Kiwi Explorers Pre-School sang Christmas songs.
People can help the appeal reach its target of 2000 by leaving a gift under the tree at the Richmond KMart. The gift will be wrapped and then distributed by the Salvation Army before Christmas.
