TDC and Neighbourhood Support introduce new event

Tasman District Council and Neighbourhood Support introduce ‘In Your Neighbourhood’, a string of free events aiming to bring locals of all ages together at parks around the region.

The first event is at Easby Park, Richmond, on Sunday, November 1, between 2-5pm.

People are encouraged to bring a picnic, and pack out any rubbish they create.  Car parking will be limited, so walking or biking to the park is considered the best option.

Tasman District Council’s events and partnership co-ordinator Paul McConachie says the grass-roots approach provides a range of benefits.

“The idea is to build the social fabric – to give local people the chance to have fun at local parks and reserves. It’s also a chance to connect the community with a bit of local history, and some of the volunteer groups working in the area.”

Various community groups who have invested significant amounts of volunteer hours and energy into developing Easby Park over the years will be there on the day.

The family-friendly event will host an array of activities:

Guided Tours

Keep Richmond Beautiful will be offering a Guided Tour of the adjoining Dellside walking tracks, highlighting the historical significance of the reservoir reserve as well as the many plant and bird species that call this area home.

Bike Workshops

Bike enthusiasts of all ages will be well catered for.  A bike tune-up service to get your wheels road/trail worthy will be provided, and the more adventures, can join the group ride to explore some of the newly created mountain bike tracks. A cycle skills activity, teaching the fundamental skills of corner and control will also be offered.

Critters and challenges

Interactive challenges and activities will also be provided throughout the afternoon. Learn about water conservation and waterways care, as well as the insects and critters which reside in our backyard.
