Matt Watson received a $5,000 AMP Powerhouse Regional Scholarship to help to him on his journey to achieving his dream of getting more kids engaged in play and sports, by delivering a health and wellbeing program to primary schools in the Nelson/Tasman region.

Matt says, “After volunteering at schools and seeing the deficiency in children’s ability during P.E, I set up No Child Left Inside (NCLI) in February 2014, a health and wellbeing program that’s delivered to primary schools.”

“NCLI teaches the basic skills kids need to be able to participate in sports, as well as active play.  These are the building blocks to children learning how to engage.”

NCLI is free for schools and delivers a PE program designed to increase children’s confidence and capabilities.  The program is based on Athletics New Zealand’s Get Set Go program and incorporates Teaching Games For Understanding (TGFU).

The money received will be put towards Matt’s next steps, to look at other schools that have asked to be included in the program.

Nigel Rukuwai, Principal Adviser and Managing Director at AMP Powerhouse says, “We’re delighted to be able to support the talented people that live in our community. There’s no doubt, there’s some incredible stories out there and we’re always impressed by Kiwis who are doing their thing,” concludes Rukuwai.
