If you saw a bunch of people hanging out of trees around the city over the weekend, you were seeing things, the national arboricultural conference was in town.
Last Thursday the NZ Arboricultural Association held their annual conference at the Rutherford Hotel. The event attracted over 180 people from the New Zealand arboriculture industry to Nelson for three days of education, networking and national level competition. The conference also featured a number of speakers including professionals from Germany, the UK and USA.
Local company, Nelson Tree Specialists has been a supporting sponsor of the event with owner Richard Walsh also helping to judge the National Climbing Competition, which took place after the conference on Friday and Saturday. Competitors used some of the impressive trees surrounding the Nelson cathedral to complete different climbing techniques including aerial rescues and footlocking.
