Parents and teachers of Nayand Primary School are gearing up for their annual fundraiser show, which is now in it’s seventh year.

This year’s show is called ‘Tour of Duty’ and will feature 35 parents and teachers, which principal Janice Gulbransen says is the biggest cast they’ve ever had.

The school is aiming to fundraise $25,000 from the show to go towards finishing the landscaping around their new multi-purpose centre. All the fundraising from previous shows has gone towards building the centre itself.

Janice says its nice to do a fundraiser that’s different from other schools. “It’s just fun,” she says. “Its a really great way of meeting parents, and it’s about building our community.”

The cabaret style show is about a ‘culinary war’ which is about to explode, and will feature 27 songs that tell a story of culinary episodes. Janice says people can expect lots of laughs, colourful and exotic costumes, traditional army gear and pre and post war memories.

“It’s just a fun night out – you can laugh, relax, and enjoy parents putting themselves out there to support the school, because that’s what its about,” she says.

The cast have been practicing weekly since March, and it has been put together by Margie Meleisea with the script being written by teacher Maree McMahon.

The school receives product and money sponsorship for the show, to help with equipment hire and costumes. Gold sponsor and cast member Richard Haynes says that he enjoys being part of the show. “Its fun to be involved in and its great to be putting something back into the community,” he says.

The show runs over three nights, and tickets are selling fast, with only a few tables left.

“We haven’t really had to push ticket sales – its just got a life of its own,” says Janice. “It’s a tradition now.”

Tickets for the shows held on September 12, 18 and 19 are available from the school office.
