Merchant Navy seamen remembered

Around 100 people gathered at Anzac Park on Saturday to recognise the efforts of the Merchant Navy.

The ceremony is held as part of Merchant Navy Day, which was on Thursday. Members of the Nelson Sea Cadets took part in the parade, alongside Nelson members of the Merchant Navy Association. The guest speaker was commander Peter Cozens, who served in the Merchant Navy as well as the Royal New Zealand Navy. On Thursday, a special ceremony was held at Sunderland Pier, where a bronze plaque commemorating Merchant Navy seafarers was unveiled.
