Keeping up with technology, even understanding some of the technology we have access to can be a struggle. Fortunately for us, The Audiophile is here to make using our gadgets that bit easier.

It’s been ten very successful years in business for Daniel O’Connell, who owns both The Audiophile and Tasman Satellite Services from their base in the Wakatu Estate.

Daniel started on his technological path back in 2000 when he began working for a company called Mainland Aerials in Christchurch. At that stage the business was the largest installation company for Sky TV and was also heavily involved with the audio and visual industry. After training and working for them for five years, Daniel ended up managing their Nelson Marlborough contracts and in 2005 took the company over, rebranding it Tasman Satellite Services.

From there he began working with Auckland franchise business, The Audiophile, and brought the franchise to the Top of the South Island. Eventually, Daniel bought out the Auckland franchise and now the business is run alongside Tasman Satellite Services, here in Nelson.

Tasman Satellite Services now runs all the Sky TV contracts for Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast, which encompasses around 35,000 or so customers. The business operates thanks to 16 qualified technicians who are on the road seven days a week performing services such as maintenance, upgrades and installations. These include Freeview installs, UHF and satellites, plus, connecting televisions and outlets to bedrooms. Anything beyond those basic services and customers can talk to the technicians at The Audiophile. Tasman Satellite Services also looks after a lot of the hotels, motels, bars and restaurants around the region, and to top it off, they have a strong commitment to health and safety practices, with the team having completed their height safe training and harness training.

Daniel believes there are a number of qualities they possess that has led to their success these past ten years. “We’ve been really focused on offering a really good service, that’s probably the key thing, we choose high quality, specialist products that you can’t get from chain stores, and we give the customer a great experience by making it easy for them.”

Offering good service also needs a solid team and staff from The Audiophile and Tasman Satellite Services are people you can rely on. “We’re a mixture, we’ve got some guys that have worked with us from Mainland Aerial days, some have come from other companies and some have come fresh into the industry just with a passion for electronics and we’ve trained them and up skilled them,” says Daniel.

Being part of the team also means staying up to date with the latest products on the market. While Daniel attends trade shows here and abroad, researching advances in home audio, visual and automation options, the team is always learning about the next stage of technological development. It’s a fast paced industry at the moment and Daniel says that’s why The Audiophile has chosen to stick to key brands and suppliers that offer full back up and training. “Most brands will roll out a new product every 12 months so we have to do all the training again to master things like, what amp works with what speakers and how to control it,” says Daniel.

For many, home entertainment is a luxury but that doesn’t mean it has to be beyond reach. The Audiophile can design a system for any style of home, on any budget, so anyone can enjoy the benefits of a custom designed electronic system. The design process begins at the start of a new build or renovation when The Audiophile sit down with their customers and the house plan to identify a solution that best meets their needs. A smooth, sleek, acoustically efficient, even unnoticeable system can be achieved with the expertise of The Audiophiles’ design team.

When it comes to audio, The Audiophile has the best in speakers whether they’re mounted into the wall or ceiling, are floor standing, you need portable Bluetooth speakers or speakers for your computer. The business stocks a range of amps including UK brand Cambridge Audio, the Yamaha RXV range and Paradigm, all of which are exclusive to The Audiophile, so you won’t find them in chain stores.

A home entertainment set up wouldn’t be complete without a seriously good television which is why The Audiophile is solely committed to Panasonic visual equipment. Everyone knows television has gone digital, and for the viewer that means better pictures and sound with on screen TV guides.  However, The Audiophile can help you achieve other viewing options in your home including HD, 3D and 4K TV for the ultimate cinema experience and distributed video for more than one television in your home displaying crystal clear TV, movies and even offers you the ability to keep an eye on your security camera video signals wherever you are.

With televisions and other devices capable of streaming music or movies, it’s important for homeowners to have their house wired for data to ensure reliable connectivity. Houses used to have a basic router, but because a lot of modern televisions have the ability to stream movies and music, the router is put under much more pressure. The Audiophile can design a network system with all the key spots hard wired, such as televisions and computers. For wireless devices, The Audiophile can put in quality wireless repeaters so the client can seamlessly use their devices throughout the house and even outside.

The Audiophile also works in with other key partners to offer their customers a fully customised security system.

To the less technologically savvy that may sound like a bit of a headache but The Audiophile are able to tie it all together with home automation, and that isn’t just limited to your sound and visual equipment. There are different levels of automation and from your mobile phone or a key pad on the wall you can control almost everything electrical. Whether it’s lighting, heating, security, blinds, audio or your pool cover – imagine coming home on a cold night and thanks to home automation, your lights are on and the heaters have already made your living areas beautifully warm. This also means The Audiophile work closely with architects, builders, electricians and other parties on a build or renovation to design and install the system.

Their sound and audio equipment isn’t just limited to domestic purposes, both businesses also work with the regions commercial companies including government organisations such as the Nelson Police.  They have set up many different board rooms around Nelson and worked with several of the regions bars, motels, hotels, restaurants and cafes.

To celebrate ten years, Daniel and the team will be offering a full month of promotions during August as well as a special promotion day on Saturday 8  August where customers can take advantage of some excellent one off specials.
