Nelson city’s bells are back in action today after some repair work.
The hour bells at Civil House on Trafalgar St, had been silent over the past month as the hour bell mechanism was replaced.
Nelson City Council says the motor which is responsible for lifting the weight that runs the clock mechanism and controls the striker that rings the hourly bell needed to be fixed.
Thanks to John Rodgers, son of Henry Rodgers & Son Ltd (watchmaker) who is responsible for maintaining the clock which is understood to have been built in 1906 by English firm John Taylor and Co.
Repairs were expected to cost $1200.
