Nelson Pine Industries Limited has been fined over $50,000 after one of it’s workers was injured trying to clear a jammed log in a conveyor belt with his hands.

The man was struck by a metal log kicker last year and spent six days in hospital with lacerations to his left arm. He suffered from tendon, muscle and nerve damage.

The company was sentenced at the Nelson District Court yesterday, for failing to ensure the safety of an employee while at work.

Nelson Pine Industries was ordered to pay $45,000 in fines and $10,000 in reparations to the worker.
