The boil water notice has been lifted for those on the Richmond water supply.
The Tasman District Council say the chlorine used to treat the temporary contamination issue will be providing a good level of protection against any contamination.
They are advising people who have been away from their property for the weekend to run their taps for a few minutes to bring the chlorinated water to their house.
If people on the rural extension of the Richmond scheme and use tanks for storage, and are concerned, they are to able achieve the same results by topping up the chlorine with plain bleach (20mls per 1000 litres of water).
Chlorination will continue until maintenance at the water plant is completed, which will be concluded later this week.
