Nelson’s Tom Marshall could be the region’s newest All Black after he delayed his contract with Gloucester in the UK, on advice from All Black selectors.
The Tasman Makos, Chiefs and Nelson Rugby Club fullback has now resigned with the Makos for the 2015 season.
The Makos announced the move last night on their Facebook page: “Tom Marshall was to leave for Gloucester, will rejoin Tasman for the 2015 season. This after being advised by NZ Rugby he is on the All Blacks selectors’ radar for the Rugby World Cup.”
Tom has been a standout player for all of the teams he’s played for in Nelson. He was a Nelson College star before playing for Nelson in the senior club competition and breaking into the Makos. He then played several seasons for the Crusaders before moving north to the Chiefs last season.
This year he’s played exceptionally well for the Chiefs in their Super 15 campaign. Tom told English media overnight that he will still head north, just not as soon as he first thought.
