The death of a person in a car fire on the Whangamoa Saddle is not suspicious, say police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ciaran Sloan says police are confident they know the identity of the deceased person but that the results of forensic testing would be required to confirm that.
The matter has now been referred to the Coroner.
The car was found burning 30 metres down the bank on the Whangamoa Saddle on Sunday afternoon with a body inside. The car was lifted out from the bank on Monday afternoon and the remains were sent away for forensic testing.
