Big turn out for Nelson half marathon

There were the guns and there were the mums, the Nelson Shoe Clinic Half Marathon on Sunday attracted them all.

The Nelson Athletics Club-run event started in perfect conditions at Saxton Field on Sunday morning.

Bang on 300 people entered the half or quarter marathon, or 5km fun run. The men’s winner of the half marathon was Christchurch’s Oska Inkster-Baynes in a scorching time of 1:09:29. He was followed by Nelson’s Kim Hogarth in a time of 1:16:10.

In the women’s race, Nelson’s Paula Canning won her tenth straight Nelson Half Marathon.

Cliff Bowman won the quarter marathon in 38:36, while Hunta Sutherland was the first woman home in the quarter marathon in 43:36.

Peter Hauge won the half marathon walk and Jamie Shaw won the quarter marathon walk.
