Early snow a sign for ‘awesome’ winter

Ski-bunnies rejoice, this year’s ski season is shaping up to be one of the best in years.

Snow is already falling at Rainbow Ski Area, with 10cm at the top of the hill and marketing and events coordinator Georgie Tudor-Jones says it’s sticking around.

“The snow started falling yesterday morning for a bit but started dumping again in the evening. Last year we had no snow in April and only a little bit in May so it is a definite good sign for the season.”

Temperatures at the ski area are already winter-like. Georgie says at 10am this morning the gauge read zero degrees and that it “feels like winter already”.

The ski area is due to open on July 4 and while Georgie says that is unlikely to be brought forward even if snow continues to dump, it will mean a great start to the season.

If this good news is getting you excited, it maybe time to check out some new ski gear. The Rainbow Sports Club is hosting its annual Snow Gear Sale on May 8 and 9.

The sale is at Hampden St School’s hall. For more information see https://www.facebook.com/events/458791044288586/
