Overnight rainfall may flood rivers

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the Nelson Tasman region tonight with the public advised to keep an eye on rivers.

MetService say rainfall could be up to 250mm in the ranges and 120mm on the plains with intensities up to 30mm per hour.

While these are not extreme rainfalls the forecasted totals could lead to floods in some rivers and localised flooding overnight.

The public is asked to keep a close eye on rivers and streams.

Motorists are also encouraged to take caution on the roads with Monday being a public holiday.
