Stoke is set to get an upgrade as part of the Nelson City Council’s Ten Year Plan.

As Nelson’s fastest growing suburb stoke is set to become home to three quarters of Nelson’s population and half of it’s new housing in the next 30 years.

Mayor Rachel Reese says focusing on developing Stoke is an important part of the city’s future and a new community facility is in the plans for Greenmeadows.

“Our commitment to this city’s success sees provisions for a number of initiatives in Stoke, our fastest growing suburb, and I am pleased Council has allocated funds for the construction of a community facility at Greenmeadows.”

The Plan provides for a new facility at Greenmeadows reserve, with $5.6 million set aside in 2015/16 and 2016/17 to build the facility.

Council are also planning the future of Stoke Hall and how it will fit in with the new Greenmeadows facility.

The new facility is not a project in isolation and wider issues raised through public consultation over the last two years will be tackled in close partnership with the community including physical works for a youth park, an extension to the Library and further improvements to parking and transport issues.
