A new St John Landrover ambulance will be unveiled in Nelson today.

The vehicle, known as “Tasman 7”, will be utilised throughout the large Tasman district, which covers Marlborough, Nelson Bays and West Coast south to Haast.

The vehicle was gifted to St John on the West Coast a number of years ago. The upgrade to St John standard was made possible through sponsorship from Port Nelson Limited.

“We are delighted to support St John in this way,” says Port Nelson CEO Martin Bynre. “Last year I spent a sponsored night shift with a St John’s crew and got to see first-hand the incredible work that they do in our community. We know that the new vehicle will be put to very good use.”

James McMeekin, St John Tasman District operations manager, says he is very pleased to have this new resource in his fleet. “Tasman 7 has the capacity to extricate a patient from a scene in adverse weather or landscape, support our emergency ambulance fleet and extend our event response capacity.

“Tasman 7 will be available for use in sporting and community events in remote locations, such as Coast to Coast, Mountain biking and Motocross. Most importantly it will be available as an ambulance resource for extreme areas and during Civil Defence emergencies”, says James.
