Nelson has been named the ninth best New Zealand destination to visit in an Experience Oz + NZ poll.

2000 votes were taken from Australian, New Zealand and international respondents with a shortlist of 20 places narrowed down to the ten top.

Nelsons placing has dropped from last years placing of fourth place to ninth place.
Poll participants were asked to consider the nature of the destination, its unique natural highlights, the area’s cultural, historic and architectural features, the variety of activities on offer, whether it was over-commercialised and if it was simply considered ‘beautiful’.

Experience Oz + NZ Business Development Manager Michelle Woodroff says the poll is a great opportunity to identify hotspots to visit in New Zealand.

“This year’s list would make a great bucket list of places to experience in New Zealand. Locations such as
Nelson are really leading the way in providing unique experiences for visitors, and it thoroughly deserves to be included on this list.”

She says the list shows people don’t just want to see the big cities.

“The absence of several major cities shows us that tourists are keen to immerse themselves more in the land and culture of regional New Zealand, and these 10 destinations certainly showcase the best of them.
