The coastguard was called out just before 5pm to assist with kitesurfers who had depowered near the Blind Channel.

Coastguard duty officer Wayne Ballantyne says they were called out because the public were suspicious of how long some of the surfers had been grounded on a sand bank.

“The kitesurfers had been in the water for some time. The police were called by a passer by who was watching them and decided it was best to check them out and assist them ashore.”

He says events like this often occur in the bay.

“No major dramas just kitesurfers doing what kitesurfer do.”
