House fire in Stoke

A Stoke home has collapsed after a fire ripped through it this afternoon.

The fire started around noon on Arapiki Rd, Stoke. Nelson Live reporter Jacob Chandler is at the scene and says the fire is big. “It’s huge, there’s at least four fire trucks here and plenty of residents watching from the road.”

He says the house has now collapsed.

A neighbour says the elderly couple that live in the house are safe. The man is “well-known” in the model aeroplane community, says the neighbour, who didn’t wish to be named.

“His favourite plane is in the trailer outside the house so it’s safe. Her car is gone but his is safe,” he says.

We’ll have more information soon.
