Nelsonians may have woken up thinking they were in Scotland this morning as the Celtic Pipe Band national contestants marched down Halifax, Trafalgar and Hardy Street today.
The parade was led by the 4B grade teams with Kapiti Coast Pipes and Drums (Inc) leading off first.
Mayor Rachel Reese overlooked the parade from a float along with presidents from both the New Zealand and Australian Pipe Band Associations.
45 bands will march down the street today at 3 minute intervals with a mass match around 11.30am. Over 1300 competitors are involved in the event.
This afternoon the best bands will compete against each other at Trafalgar Park followed by more public displays.
