Careless driver forces teen off road

A teenager on a motorbike was forced off the road by a driver crossing the
centre line in Redwood Valley on Saturday and police are searching for
witnesses to help track down the wayward driver.

Tom Froeling was riding his bright red Honda CBF125 motorbike on the Moutere
Highway between Redwood Valley Lane and Maisey Rd when he was forced to veer
off the road and into a ditch to avoid being hit by the car.

Tom says the driver crossed the centre line on a blind corner as it overtook
two cyclists.

The driver of the the car, an older style 4×4, did not stop after the
accident. The two male cyclists and a following car stopped to make sure he
was okay. The female driver of the second car took Tom home.

Tom’s father, Hans Froeling, says the bike took most of the damage with
Tom’s protective clothing leaving him relatively unscathed.

“He came out alright, we thought he had a broken finger but it was just
bruised,” he says.

Tom also received a sprained neck from the incident and cut up his knees.

Hans says the bike will need a lot of work.

“It’s not just scratches, the handlebars and break pedals are bent too.”

He says the bike was only covered by third party insurance so it was going
to cost a lot to fix.

The incident happened around 11:20 on Saturday and witnesses of the vehicle
are being sought. Hans is hoping for the driver to come forward.
