Dorathy Goodyer enjoys a front-seat ride in Ewen's Limousine.

New experience a stretch for senior citizens

Residents at the Green Gables retirement village were treated to a taste of luxury as they were offered the chance to ride in Ewen Gilmour’s old limousine.

The limousine was driven down to Nelson by Steve Steele for the annual car show two weekends ago.

Steve also volunteers as a driver for Green Gables and today he he is giving rides to the residents.

Activities co-ordinator for Green Gables, Paula Holden, says most residents never heard of Ewen but had children who were fans, they were very pleased to be driven in a limo.

“A lot of the seniors have never seen a limo, especially one like this.”

The 1993 GT Radial limousine was donated to Variety Bash after Ewen Gilmour died in October last year. The car attends a number of events in order to raise money to the charity.

While in Nelson the car has raised over $2500 for the Variety Children’s Mini Bash.
