Families sign up for beach cricket

Nelson families are honing their cricket skills ahead of a beach cricket tournament at Tahuna this Saturday.

One of the teams taking part is the Flowers family, after mum Rachel entered a family team in the Hyundai Beach vs Beach 2015 cricket cup. First prize of the tournament is a share in $25,000 worth of family time through the Hyundai Family Time Project. The Flowers team, called the Okiwi Fishers, is made up of Rachel, husband Robbie, and sons Josh, 12, and Ryan 10, along with a couple of other family members who are available on the day to have a go with the bat. Their family team entered and won a backyard cricket competition at The Playhouse on Boxing Day, so they decided to have a go in the beach competition and hopefully continue their winning streak.

The family play street cricket nearly every night outside their home, and when asked who is the most competitive everyone points to Robbie. Rachel says they are looking forward to having some fun family time in the sun.

The beach cricket tournament will be held on Tahuna Beach, January 24. Registrations are still open, for more information visit
