Movember – possibly the ugliest, yet most effective, awareness campaign is back.
Movember is now an international hit, with men all over the world growing a mo for the month of November, to raise money and awareness for men’s health. In Nelson, three local businesses have teamed up to raise money and hope they will encourage men to get a health check-up and, of course, grow a mo.
Stormy’s Man Cave Barber Shop, the Vic Brew Bar and Morrison St Cafe are helping promote Movember in Nelson and they say it’s easy to get involved.
“There are three ways to get involved,” says Shawn Stormann, from Stormy’s.
“Sponsor a collection gumboot in your store, donate your coffee or beer change to any Movember gumboot, or grow a mo and make a commitment to get a health check soon.”
The collection gumboots have been donated by The Warehouse and will be put in Nelson businesses.
People can drop money in the gumboots at participating stores and the money raised will go to the Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust.
At the end of the month, the Vic Brew Bar will host a Movember Stache Bash where there will be prizes for the best mos.
Shawn says Movember is a proven winner when it comes to getting men to talk about their health.
“It’s really effective and really important. One in eight Kiwi men will deal with some form of depression in their lifetime, and one in three New Zealanders are overweight or obese. Prevention is everything.”
