All Black legend Buck Shelford was among the 109 runners and walkers who raised more than $3000 for Blue September on Father’s Day.
The five kilometre fun run was organised by MS Ford as an awareness and fundraising drive for Blue September, which is held to promote awareness around prostate cancer.
It’s the first time the Blue September fun run has been held and it took participants from the new Maitai walkway, next to the Trafalgar Centre, to Miyazu Gardens, around Founders Heritage Park and back to the start line.
MS Ford dealer principal Alan Kirby says he was thrilled with the day.
“We were really nervous because we were told that it’s impossible to get men along to these events. But for a first-time event I’m delighted with the turnout and the enthusiasm of everyone there.”
Alan hinted that the fun run would be back next year and he’d like to see “double the numbers”.
“We’re delighted with it, it was very cool.”
