A group of local businesswomen are keen find Nelson’s “most wonderful” woman.
The women, from 11 local businesses, have joined forces to run the promotion which closes on International Women’s Day, March 8. Nominations will be collected from the public with a voting panel and the mayor to decide the overall winner, who will take home a prize pack worth $2300.
Event coordinator Karen Jordan says they want people to nominate women who stand out in their lives, not necessarily business or community leaders.
“Every day we come across amazing women in this great little city of ours who achieve fantastic things,” she says. “I’m not necessarily talking about community leaders, although we’re fortunate to have plenty of role models in that area. I’m talking about friends, sisters, partners and mums who share close bonds and help each other through day-to-day life.”
The idea came to Karen and her business partner, Kate Donaldson, in recognising the fact that they work in a collaborative manner with other local businesswomen.
Anybody can submit a nominee for the title by explaining in 250 words or less, why they think that woman deserves to win.
The entries will be shortlisted by the judging panel, consisting of the women behind the sponsoring businesses, with the top six entries being forwarded to Nelson’s first female mayor, Rachel Reese, who will pick the overall winner, to be announced at JAYS & KO on March 19. Rachel says she’s looking forward to being involved in the event.
“I think it’s a fantastic idea to celebrate Nelson’s most wonderful woman, I applaud these local businesswomen for their initiative, and look forward to reviewing the top six entries and picking a deserving winner of the title.”
The 11 businesses who are sponsoring the event and where entry forms can be picked up and dropped off, are JAYS & KO, KO Cosmetics, Taylors Shoes, Cardells Hair, Caci, Little Boutique, Benjamin Black Goldsmiths, Café Affair, Matthews Eyewear, Shine and Wild Tomato.
