Golden Girls ready for Christmas shows

For 14 years Nelson’s Golden Girls’ have been shining at rest homes, anniversaries, birthday parties and hospitals and they say there’s no end in sight.

The five piece singing, dancing and acting group have been busy so far this month visiting various rest homes in the lead up to Christmas.

Maria Clinton says the group have performed 876 shows since 1999 and she has each recorded in A4 books, detailing what they performed and when so they can keep the show fresh next time they visit.

“Our shows are put together like a jigsaw to suit audience and age. We keep it light and fun and love to see the smiles.”

The Golden Girls have 14 Christmas shows planned over the next few weeks, including its first of the season at the Wood Retirement Village last Friday.

Maria says the group doesn’t get a lot of money out of their gigs, but they enjoy doing it because of the smiles they get and knowing that they are doing a nice thing in the community.
