Birthday celebration cut down by thief

Dianne MacMorland should be  celebrating 14 years of success at her local hair salon, but instead she is spending the anniversary adding up just how much she’s lost to thieves who targeted the salon last Thursday night.

Hair Craft, on Tahunanui’s main road, had its back window smashed in and was burgled, with the culprits making off with more than $4000 worth of equipment. Saddened and angry at the thoughtless crime, Dianne is appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward with the information. Items that were stolen include hair straightners, clippers, products, money, even the stylist’s scissors. All of which were a shock to find missing when she arrived at work the next day. “The till was all over the floor, they’d taken the float and five minutes later we realised they had taken all of the equipment.”

She says it isn’t the first time local businesses have been broken into, with the bead studio next door being burgled just two weeks ago. “I don’t think they understand that excess on commercial insurance is $1000. That’s fine for the big businesses, but it makes it very hard for small businesses.”

Any information on the burglary should be given to the Nelson police.
