St John is offering free emergency ambulance service in return to everyone that joins its supporter scheme.
Because St John is a charity, it relies on donations and fundraising to deliver its services and area executive officer Sarah McCabe says the scheme is the perfect way to support St John as all the money will stay in the community.
“If you’re a supporter, no matter where you go in New Zealand and you need the ambulance, you will be covered,” she says.
Recognised most for its ambulance service, St John also provides first aid coverage at public events, a health shuttle that transports people to and from health-related appointments, a telephone friendship service for the community, youth programmes and ‘Friends of the Emergency Department’ which gives comfort to patients in Nelson Hospital.
St John’s annual appeal began this week with collectors based at New World Stoke and New World Nelson.
