Div 2 rugby comp heats up

Nelson have tackled their way into the top four of a crowded senior rugby second division with an 11-7 win over Waimea Old Boys on Saturday.
Galbraith Nelson muscled up against a bigger Waimea pack at Jubilee Park and was buoyed after withstanding several waves of attack on their try line early in the game. Captain and first five Craig Foster kicked two penalties for the visitors and Ethan Blackadder was credited with the try after a rolling maul crashed over the line.
Assistant coach Callum Payne says the team really stood up.
“The forwards made a lot of tackles, defensibly we were fantastic. They were right on our line for the final five minutes and we managed to hold them out and take the win.”
Callum says there’s a great team culture in the squad this year and they’ll need it with all but two of the teams in the second division a realistic chance at making the top four at the end of the season.
Riwaka, Takaka, Murchison, Stoke, Waimea and Huia are all fighting for top spots.
