Rockquest finalists announced


The top 12 high school musical acts to contest the Nelson Smokefreerockquest final have been named, following Saturday night’s heats at the Theatre Royal.
This year’s event has seen the addition of the solo/duo category, although just two from this category will contest the final at the Theatre Royal on Friday night. Laura Mae of Nelson College for Girls, and Livvy and Anna from Garin College will be joined by ten bands in the final. Those bands are; Slim Conviction, Garin College and Nayland College; Third Wheel, Nelson College for Girls, Nayland College and Nelson College; The Black Spots, Garin College, Golden Bay High School and Nelson College for Girls; Sermon of the Dammed, Nelson College and Nayland College; Paper City, Nayland College, Garin College and Nelson College; Oh Blok, Garin College; Room To Breathe, Motueka High School and Nelson College; Two Day Crisis, Waimea College; Sustain, Garin College; One Notch Higher, Nelson College for Girls, Nayland College, Nelson College and Broadgreen Intermediate.
Nelson has been the most successful region for Smokefreerockquest with bands The Peasants and New Vinyl taking national honours in the past two years.
