Top tourny at golf club

Around 130 golfers from around Nelson will battle it out for top prizes and bragging rights at the Harvey Norman Fourball Championship at the Nelson Golf Course this weekend.
The tournament is now in its 31st year and teams of two will play a round of golf as a team on Saturday and then as individuals on Sunday. The joint best score from the first day and the two individual scores on the Sunday will then be added and handicaps taken into account.
Tournament director Norma Adams says the tournament is one of the best attended in the region and it’s a lot of fun. “It’s very fun but also very competitive. You can go out and have a really good game yourself on the Sunday and your partner comes in with a bad score and ruins it for you.”
Major sponsorship from Harvey Norman means there’s plenty of huge prizes up for grabs and club captain Keir Wilkinson says they will take entries up until the morning of the tournament and are expecting a similar number to the 64 they had last year. Entry can be made by emailing [email protected] or by calling the pro shop on 548 5029.
He says golfers should pick your partner carefully. “It’s always good to play with a friend rather than your spouse. Friends are more forgiving, or you can at least make new ones,” he joked.
