Nelson’s night at the opera

One of Nelson’s most popular music events ended on a high note on Saturday with thousands of people spread out on their picnic blankets for a night of entertainment.

With a star studded line up of top musicians from around New Zealand – including Nelson’s own Trudi Wilson – Opera in the Park took over Trafalgar Park for the biennial event.

Organisers are still collating ticket numbers but say the are close to 8000.

“I’m really proud Nelson City Council delivered such a top class event and with such a large crowd we know that it continues to be a ‘must-see’ in Nelson’s events calendar.” says Nelson mayor  Aldo Miccio.

“Events like the opera showcase our vibrant city and help put Nelson on the map.”

Jane Hilson says she and her children thoroughly enjoyed the show. “It’s a great family event, it’s an opportunity to get a bit of culture. It would be great if we could have it back every year.”

Local man Adrian Secker says he too thought the event was great.

“It’s magic. Glorious music, a lovely day, what’s not to like.”
